Philip Empey, Associate Director for Pharmacogenomics at the Institute for Precision Medicine and faculty in the School of Pharmacy and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, who leads the Pitt/Thermo PGx Center of Excellence was interviewed recently by genomeweb for an article highlighting our efforts to perform PGx testing on up to 150,000 individuals in the UPMC system. Our goals are to return results to the medical record, measure the impact of testing on healthcare utilization/spending, demonstrate clinical utility and economic value, develop new standards for return of results, and inform best practices for patient education. Our ambitious efforts are underway, and we expect to start returning results to patients later this year.
